Partner Jim Burger recently gave a “Washington Update” to the 2014 Tech Retreat for the Hollywood Post Alliance (HPA), the leading trade association for professionals supporting the television and film industry. The Tech Retreat is geared toward members who focus on all aspects of technology in film and television production.

As detailed in an article by TV Technology, Jim discussed how Congress and the legal system are grappling with intellectual property issues like fair use. He covered several appellate cases that have dealt with the digitization of books, an Ed Sullivan clip used in a production of "Jersey Boys," and photo alteration.

"Burger also touched on network neutrality, which compels broadband providers to treat all Internet traffic equally," wrote Deborah D. McAdams for TV Technology. "Federal Communications Commission codified network neutrality in 2010. The D.C. Circuit Court uncodified it last month."
